SACHTOPERSE: Ultrafine barium sulfate particles for high-end coatings
SACHTOPERSE, an ultrafine barium-sulfate-based functional additive permits innovative potentials for the optimization of paint properties. A special production process combined with extremely effective after-treatment (coating) guarantees extreme fineness and the product's low conductivity at consistently high levels. In high-quality paints and coatings, SACHTOPERSE contributes to efficient deflocking of the colored pigments. SACHTOPERSE adsorbs on the surface of the pigment, thus preventing agglomeration of the pigment particles. This stabilizing mechanism is the result, on the one hand, of purely steric effects and, on the other, this repelling effect can be further explained by the electrostatic charge on the surface of the SACHTOPERSE particles. In addition, SACHTOPERSE prevents discoloration in stove-baking paints caused by excessive temperatures (over-stoving or hot-spot temperature zones in the oven). The nano-particles with a size less than 100 nm, low refractive index and high transparency give this high-tech product the ideal performance profile for use in both transparent coatings and colored paint systems. Thanks to its low Mohs hardness, SACHTOPERSE is eminently suitable for applications that require low abrasion. SACHTOPERSE permits the formulation of haze-free high-gloss paints, water-based paints, and paints and coatings with a high solids and low solvent content.
In addition to the powder products, we can also supply easy-to-use SACHTOPERSE HU-N-Aqua pastes and solvent-based SACHTOPERSE HU-N-LP pastes as ready-to-use system solutions. There is no need for dispersion of the nano-particles if these pastes are used.
