HOMBITEC RM in clear paint and coating systems

The scattering power of a pigment depends not only on its refractive index and the wavelength of the light, but also on the pigment's particle size. Thanks to their fineness, nano-range titanium dioxides such as HOMBITEC RM do not scatter visible light and are therefore suitable for use in transparent coating systems. HOMBITEC RM is colourless and hence eminently suitable for use in clear paint and coating systems.

Crystal-lattice doping makes it possible to significantly reduce the photoactivity of the titanium dioxide base. UV radiation is absorbed by the titanium dioxide and converted to thermal energy. Unlike organic substances, chemically inert titanium dioxide is not degraded, thus enhancing the long-term stability of the entire system.

HOMBITEC RM 300 and HOMBITEC RM 400 provide excellent UV protection even in extremely thin layered systems.

HOMBITEC RM 300 and HOMBITEC RM 400 were added to a transparent styrene acrylate dispersion in form of a paste and compared against a yellow transparent iron oxide and a combination of organic UV absorber and HALS.

Colour tone changes after 1000 hours in the Q-panel under exposure to a 313 nm lamp are expressed by the delta E values in the following graphic and illustrate significant improvements in resistance to outdoor exposure achieved with both HOMBITEC RM grades.
