Hombitec ultra-fine inorganic UV absorbers

Both natural sunlight and artificial light sources emit short-wave, high-energy UV radiation.

Whereas pigmentary titanium dioxides, with a primary crystallite size of 0.3 µm, i.e., white pigments, optimally scatter visible light, our transparent Hombitec products absorb harmful UV light. Inside the titanium dioxide crystal, this high-energy short-wave radiation is converted to long-wave thermal radiation and returned to the environment. The special coating applied to the ultra-fine titanium dioxide particles, combined with efficient modifications inside the crystal lattice, hermetically enclose the briefly occurring reactive oxygen radical. They thus ensure rapid recombination of electron and "defect electron" in the crystal lattice, with the emission of thermal radiation.

The dependable UV protection provided by the Hombitec range of products has now been in use for a number of years in high-performance and elegant sun-screening products. In addition, specially developed Hombitec grades are also used in transparent wood-protection coatings and in packaging. Particular attention also focuses on the permanent UV protection provided for specially treated man-made fibre textiles.
