Sachtolith: The basis for the special
Sachtolith is an important ingredient for the broad and diverse forms and functions in the world of plastics. A highly white zinc sulfide pigment, it is suitable in particular for processing in glass-fiber-reinforced plastics (GRPs). Because: Zinc sulfide is significantly softer than titanium dioxide. So it does not damage the sensitive glass fibers embedded in the plastic. Mechanical properties, and impact strength, in particular, remain unaffected, however. GRPs are used, among many other diverse applications, for the construction of high-tech sailing yachts, plastic vehicle bodyshells, and attractively styled sports gear. In fiber-reinforced thermoset plastics for a range of applications, Sachtolith is the guarantee of radiant white and outstanding flexibility. Glass-fiber-reinforced thermoplastics are used, among many other applications, for front-end and cockpit modules in the automotive field. All types of everyday objects, including the seats in sports stadia, airports and other public and private facilities are made elegant and strong using GRPs incorporating Sachtolith.
Comparative assessment of material notched impact strength in GRPs incorporating Sachtolith and titanium dioxide. Tool and processing-machine wear is also drastically reduced.
Sachtolith offers the following special advantages in the plastics field:
– Low binder requirement
– Excellent dispersibility
– Neutral white hue
– Low agglomerate content
– Extremely good optical properties
– Extremely low abrasion
Sachtolith applications in the plastics sector:
– Thermoplastics
– Glass-fiber-reinforced plastics
– Thermosets
– SMC/BMC
– Elastomers
– Pigment-polymer concentrates
– Liquid-pigment concentrates
– Fluorescent formulations
– Paper coatings
– Printing inks
– UV-curing systems
– Lubricants
And when colours light up with a special brilliance, you'll usually find Sachtolith around. Thanks to its exceptional softness and low UV absorption, this zinc sulfide pigment is eminently suitable for use in printing. It provides fluorescent effects in the so-called Dayglo colours, which strike just the right tone in marking pens, modern toys and sports equipment, and overprints. On the other hand, this soft white pigment also help to shield printing equipment and cutting tools against abrasion. Sachtolith is free of harmful heavy metals. In addition, Sachtolith fulfils the stipulations of the German BGA (Federal German Office of Health) and of the American FDA, Chapter 178.
Sachtolith is available in the following three grades:
Sachtolith L
For best possible results in standard paint and coating systems
Sachtolith HD
For special paints and coatings
Sachtolith HD-S
For all plastic and powder-coating systems where exceptionally high quality is specified
