Hombitec RM 230 L: Reliable UV protection for fruit, vegetables and decorative plants in agricultural films

We have exactly the right product for protecting fruit, vegetables and decorative plants, such as roses, against harmful UV radiation. Plastic films incorporating the Hombitec RM 230L broadband filter efficiently absorb high-energy UV-A and UV-B radiation. High-quality, high-fat and UV sensitive agricultural produce can thus grow and ripen under optimum conditions.

The special production process used makes it possible to significantly reduce the sensitivity to light (photoactivity) of the titanium dioxide base. Hombitec 230 L, a modern, ultra-fine, transparent titanium dioxide acts as an efficient UV absorber. The extremely fine-particled titanium dioxide absorbs the short-wave, high-energy spectrum of sunlight and converts to thermal radiation.

Both the efficiency and the transparency of the overall system depend heavily on the dispersion of the ultra-fine titanium dioxide in the polymer. Hombitec RM 230 L is therefore subjected to a specially modified post-production treatment which guarantees for the user easy incorporation and excellent dispersion of the UV filter in polyolefins and PVC. We also supply corresponding Masterbatches as a special service for our customers.

Inorganic ultra-fine titanium dioxides such as Hombitec RM 230 L are insoluble in the commonly used polymer systems and are therefore not liable to migration.

The excellent properties described above make Hombitec RM 230 L eminently suitable for all applications in which high transparency, colour neutrality and efficient UV protection are important. Hombitec RM 230 L is not suitable for foodstuffs packaging, however. We supply Hombitec RM 130 F, an ultra-fine titanium dioxide suitable for foodstuffs contact with excellent UV absorption, specifically for these applications.
