Titanium dioxide: For more than just glowing white
With a reflectivity higher than diamond, titanium dioxide is the white pigment with an unparalleled whiteness. For more than four decades, Sachtleben has been producing ultra-white titanium dioxide from black ore, using concentrated sulfuric acid. With its top-quality Hombitan anatase microcrystals for the most diverse man-made fiber applications, Sachtleben is the acknowledged quality leader in the field of spun fiber delustering. Only anatase-microcrystals make it possible to deluster and work initially transparent man-made fibers. Special functional additives from Sachtleben enable textile and fiber producers to manufacture products incorporating completely new properties.
In plastics for window sections, garden furniture, everyday household objects (toaster housings, smoothing-iron casings, etc.) and also in plastic components for the automotive industry and in plastics-based paints and coatings, rutile titanium dioxide pigments ensure high whitenesses and color intensities while at the same time protecting against yellowing and preventing the embrittlement of the material.
Our high-quality, homogeneous and highly weather-resistant Hombitec RM series ultrafine titanium-dioxide grades make it possible to apply Colorstyling to modify the color of automotive paints at will. Hombitec grades developed specially for wood preservation provide the most diverse woods with excellent weathering resistance, by filtering the high-energy radiation harmful to wood out of sunlight. Sachtleben also supplies transparent titanium dioxides suitable for high-factor sun-protection cremes and plastic (foodstuff-) packaging. Hombitan Anatase FF-Pharma, an anatase titanium dioxide pigment with a particularly high chemical purity, is the most important white pigment for the pharmaceuticals and cosmetics industries. Hombitan FG excellently fullfills the special requirements of foodindustries or tipping paper manufacturers.
As a specialist in the solid-state and surface chemistry of titanium dioxide, Sachtleben has developed revolutionary products for analytical and preparative liquid chromatography: Sachtopore. In addition to these applications, titanium dioxide can also be used as a catalyst, as a photocatalyst, and as an inert ceramic base material for active components. Mixed-phase oxides for colored pigments, and also specific catalysts, can be created using Hombitan VKR 611, a micronized high-surface-area, highly reactive non-calcined titanium dioxide.
